IRADUKUNDA AMBROSE
Championing community ecological resilience, indigenous tree planting, climate-smart agriculture, and youth conservation advocacy in Kihihi, Kanungu District and across East Africa.
Iradukunda Ambrose is the founder of Green Guardians Conservation Hub, a youth-led organization committed to environmental conservation, biodiversity restoration, tree planting, climate education, and empowering young people and communities to take meaningful environmental action. He also serves as the African Ambassador of OurWorld2050 and African Lead for the Climate Communications Alliance, where I contribute to advancing youth participation, climate communication, and environmental action across Africa.
His leadership journey also includes serving as the Campus Director of the Millennium Fellowship at Makerere University Main Campus, Cohort C, and as a Student Representative to the Board of BCCK. He has also represented the Kigezi Region in the Environmental Parliament, bringing regional and youth perspectives to conversations around environmental protection and sustainable development.
At the national level, he serves on the Youth Sub-Committee of the Ministry of Water and Environment, where he contributes to initiatives focused on strengthening youth participation in environmental conservation, climate action, and sustainable development. Through his work, Ambrose brings together young people, schools, communities, civil society organizations, and environmental stakeholders to turn environmental awareness into practical action. His vision is to inspire and equip a new generation of young African leaders to protect our environment, address climate change, and create sustainable solutions for their communities.

Environmental Friendly Mining
I am advocating for safer and more responsible gold mining in Kayungwe, Kanungu District, with a particular focus on fighting the use of mercury in gold processing.
I believe mining should improve people’s lives without putting their health, water sources, soil and environment at risk. Through my advocacy, I want to raise awareness about the dangers of mercury, promote safer and mercury-free mining practices, and encourage miners and stakeholders to protect our environment while benefiting from the region’s natural resources.
I believe gold mining can create opportunities without destroying our environment.
My goal is to contribute to a safer, cleaner and more sustainable mining sector in Kayungwe, where communities can earn a living while protecting nature for future generations.Photo Gallery
